Former Pittsburgh Resident Pleads Guilty In 1988 Rape Case
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A former Pittsburgh resident is now headed to prison after pleading guilty in connection with the alleged rape of a Shadyside woman 25 years ago.
Police say a DNA match linked 56-year-old Stevey Kiser to the rape of a Shadyside woman in 1988.
"It's absolutely amazing. It's amazing because these women, they obviously go on with their lives, but they don't forget," says Pittsburgh Police Detective April Campbell.
Detective Campbell got a call from the rape victim a few years ago and looked up the case. Campbell asked the county crime lab to see if there was a DNA match.
Campbell says the DNA matched Steven Kiser who was living in San Diego. Pittsburgh Police arrested him there and brought him back to Pittsburgh.
On Thursday, Kiser pled guilty to rape charges, he will now spend up to eight years in prison.
Detectives are now using DNA to try to solve other unsolved cases.
Police believe there are hundreds of rape victims in the region who do not know who attacked them.
