Former Pirates' Trainer Frank Velasquez Talks Spring Training Injuries
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - In his weekly "VESLA 360 Injury Report" exclusively here on 937thefan.com, former Pittsburgh Pirates trainer Frank Velasquez takes a look at some injuries the Pirates are dealing with in spring training.
Velasquez first talked about the Chris Stewart hamstring injury that manager Clint Hurdle has described as a "tweak."
"With any soft tissue injury, you're going to take the conservative approach, depending on where you are in the season," Velasquez said.
One injury that is certain to have fans worried is the lower body "general soreness" All-Star Andrew McCutchen is dealing with and they're treating with rest. Velasquez talks about the idea of resting players throughout the season, particularly the 162 game grind of an MLB season.
"I think it's very important, and I think it's great that the teams and organizations are starting to put more emphasis on rest, recovery and regeneration," he said.
