Former Pirate Phil Garner On How To Shake Things Up: "I've Tried Drawing The Lineup Out Of A Hat"
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) -- Former Pittsburgh Pirates, Major League Manager, and current Special Assistant to the Oakland Athletics, Phil Garner joined John Seibel and Josh Miller of Seibel, Starkey and Miller on Sportsradio 93-7 The FAN to talk about the run the Pirates have made this year.
Garner said he still gets a chance to keep an eye on the Pirates, and he's really holding out hope that they'll finish off their run this season and make the playoffs.
When it comes to getting out of their August slump, Garner said, "the ones that can get through it, it seems like you get a second wind almost. If you kind of get through August without going too far under water, it's almost like you get to September, and man, you can see the finish line and you pick up strength and you get better."
Garner also told us what the perception around baseball is of the PIrates, and he said the one thing you hear about this organization is how good their pitching is.
We wrapped things up with Garner talking about one of his former pitchers in Houston, Roger Clemens, as well as the recent Major League Baseball suspensions of Melky Cabrera and Bartolo Colon.
