Former NHL Goalie & Current Analyst Dissects Fleury's Play
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Current St. Louis Blues and TSN analyst Darren Pang both played goalie in the league and still follows the action of those playing it today and gave some insight as to why Marc-Andre Fleury might be struggling so much this year in the playoffs.
"The one thing that I would be thinking of if I were in his position, I'd certainly be upset with the goals that I gave up in the Islander series, but I'd be thrilled that you're still in the playoffs," says Pang. "There's nothing worse than letting your teammates down or giving up bad goals."
At times in the playoffs Fleury has looked shaken by what was happening to him in the net, and Pang gave us a look inside a goaltenders mind and if it's possible for a player to be out of it mentally because a team rattle him early on.
"Absolutely. It happens where match-ups just don't figure into the equation," Pang says. "It happens because you end up, for one reason or another, you misplay an odd-man break or a two-on-one or you misplay a shot from the point and you start the series on your heels."
Pang also discussed a conversation he had last year during the playoffs with Dan Bylsma about Fleury's play and an interesting trade proposition we presented him with including Marc-Andre Fleury and Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price.
