Former Munhall Manager Skips Out On Trial, Bench Warrant Issued
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A bench warrant has been issued for the former borough manager of Munhall who is accused of embezzling thousands of dollars.
Matthew Galla is charged with stealing $230,000 from the borough from between 2010 to 2013. He failed to show up for the start of his trial on Tuesday at the Allegheny County Courthouse.
Investigators say Galla allegedly overpaid himself on four different occasions.
"This community has been going through angst for better than two years right now because of the mismanagement and the alleged embezzlement and we would like to put this behind us," said Robert Callen, Munhall's borough manager.
His lawyer says Galla is worried about going to jail.
"I knew how stressful this was for him, and as we were preparing for trial, I lost contact around June 25," said Brent McCune, Galla's attorney. "Obviously, he's nervous, he's facing felony charges. I actually think the case is defendable in some respects."
At last check, Galla was living in Riverside, California.
About a year ago he was seen in the audience of "The Price Is Right."
