Former HS Football Coach Sentenced For Cocaine Ring
PITTSBURGH (AP) - A former assistant high school football coach been sentenced to almost six years in federal prison for his role in a cocaine ring.
Thirty-seven-year-old Carlos Cleckley of Beaver Falls received a 70-month sentence on Thursday. He pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to sell cocaine. He formerly coached at Beaver Falls High School, about 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
Authorities say the ring was responsible for most of the cocaine sold in Beaver County. They busted the ring in 2011, seizing a 16-kilogram shipment of cocaine from Texas and $669,000.
U.S. District Judge Alan N. Bloch says Cleckley's work in youth sports was admirable, yet he was also involved with large amounts of cocaine.
Cleckley says he hopes he can move forward from the mistake.
