Football Field Flooded After Rain Storm

MONROEVILLE (KDKA) - Clean up continues in Turtle Creek and Monroeville after major flooding Monday night.

The Woodland Hills football field is one of the areas damaged by the flood waters.

School Superintendent Alan Johnson says between a creek and being situated at the bottom of a hill, "it was just sort of a bad confluence of circumstance. A lot of water came down."

The school district thanked the Turtle Creek Volunteer Fire Department who came to their aide as soon as the rain stopped, helping to pump out all the water off the field.

The locker room also got a few inches of water as well. Johnson says, though, there was no significant long term damage.

"I think the turf is fine. We've inspected it a couple of times. It seems to be ok but because it's artificial and not natural grass, one of the precautions we always take after something like this is we treat it with a disinfectant."

The field was being hosed off and then sanitation efforts would get underway. As for practice, the district had made arrangements for the Wolverines to use another field. Meanwhile, the district got lucky with the game schedule.

"We're away this Friday night, so we got a break there," said Johnson. "We'll be back home next Friday night and absolutely wolverine football will be on next Friday."
