Flooding Continues To Cause Problems, 70 Evacuated
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Ice jams and flooding along Oil Creek forced people out of their homes and into shelters.
As many as 70 people were evacuated in Venango County.
According to Tom Sherman, the emergency management coordinator, problems began Friday afternoon and ice is backed up about a half-mile.
The same thing is going on in Westmoreland County as well. Flood waters have washed out roads and turned backyards into swimming pools.
Firefighters helped evacuate three families in Bolivar.
Beaver County officials also spent Friday monitoring streams and rivers in the area.
Connoquenessing Creek caused problems in some areas, like Independence Township, where at least one road was closed because of water spilling over and out of the creek.
In other areas, the creek was still covered with ice, making flooding predictions difficult for emergency management officials.
Meanwhile, in Downtown Pittsburgh, the Mon Wharf parking lot is closed due to possible flooding.
