Flood & Winter Storm Watch In Effect Across Area
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There are new concerns today over the wet weather after more rain fell overnight, and now with the threat of snow moving into the area.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Allegheny, Beaver, Greene and Washington counties.
KDKA meteorologist Dennis Bowman said Thursday morning that we had a general inch to an inch and a half of rain in the Pittsburgh region.
Places where flooding continues to be a big concern are areas like the 10th Street Bypass, the Mon Wharf, the North Shore Riverwalk and the Parkway Central/Bathtub area.
Bowman says temperatures will get cold enough tonight to change the rain over to snow with one to two inches by morning.
A Winter Storm Watch was issued for Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Crawford, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango and Washington counties.
More snow will fall during the day Friday. Bowman says we can expect a general total of three to five inches, and up to six inches in the Laurel Highlands.
The City of Pittsburgh has issued a "Phase 2 - Snow Warning Alert." According to city officials, the alert means that crews will be working 12 hour shifts around the clock.
Also, large trucks will focus on the primary roads, and smaller trucks will hit the secondary streets.
As for the temperatures, Bowman says today's high will reach near 50 degrees with a low of 32 tonight. Friday's high will be about 36 degrees.
Also, it looks like some rain showers and wet snow could be with us on Saturday too.
