Flames Rip Through Home In Knoxville
KNOXVILLE (KDKA)- Fire crews say a house in Knoxville was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.
The fire started just after 1 a.m. Friday morning at a home on Jucunda Street.
Neighbors say flames were shooting out of the windows, and several neighboring homes had to be evacuated.
"We basically did a defensive attack because of the heavy fire involvement of the building, it was unsafe for our firefighters to enter," said Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Hennessy.
The house is a total loss and building inspectors will be out Friday morning to see if the home needs to be demolished.
Neighbors say the woman who lives in the home is a grad student who was in the process of renovating the house.
There were concerns that she may have been trapped in the fire.
"We had a report of a possible victim trapped. Those reports changed overnight, we were told yes there might be someone inside, but later on the individual was located," said Deputy Chief Hennessy. He went on to say, "however there is still a little ambiguity in the report."
Fire crews had to make some long hose lays to fight the fire, but overall the firefight was smooth and the fire was put out by 3 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
