Flames Consume Old Ceramics Plant In New Castle
NEW CASTLE (KDKA) -- Fire investigators in Lawrence County are trying to determine what sparked a fire at an old ceramics plant last night.
Firefighters worked for hours to control the stubborn blaze at the old Shenago China factory in New Castle.
People who live near the vacant building said the fire started quickly just before 6 p.m. and left heavy, black smoke billowing over the community. The smoke was so thick that witnesses said they couldn't see through it at all.
Firefighters worked into the night as the intense fire continued to smolder late in to the evening.
Emergency personnel did not need to evacuate any surrounding businesses or homes. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
