Flames Consume North Side House
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – One man is without a home this Christmas, after it was consumed by fire.
The fire started in the garage of his North Side house on Waldorf Street around 7 p.m.
Flames were so high at one point that drivers on Interstate 79 could see them and called 9-1-1.
The fire was contained to the garage, but thick smoke filled the house.
Firefighters had to break some of the windows in order to get into the house, because they weren't sure if the elderly man who lives there was trapped inside.
However, the man was not home at the time and is OK.
His cat was inside the house at the time of the fire, but firefighters were able to rescue it.
Authorities say the man will stay with his daughter for Christmas.
No word on what started the fire.
