Flags Flying At Half-Staff For Fallen Navy SEAL
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Flags are flying at half-staff today for a local Navy SEAL who was killed during a rescue mission in Afghanistan.
Petty Officer 1st Class Nicolas D. Checque, 28, of Monroeville, was killed on Dec. 8, while trying to rescue a doctor who had been captured by the Taliban.
Officials in Afghanistan said Dr. Dilip Joseph of Colorado Springs, Colo., was rescued during the mission.
Checque was a 10-year decorated member of the SEAL Team Six.
Checque was also a graduate of Norwin High School.
He is being buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
