Five Reasons To Visit Pittsburgh For Spring Break

During spring break, students get an opportunity to relax. While some travel to warmer weather, it may be better to save the money and enjoy some time in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is the home of champion sports franchises, art, technology and shopping. Spring break is scheduled for most schools in the month of March and downtown Pittsburgh has many events to satisfy your interests during this time. Here are five reasons to visit Pittsburgh during spring break.

The Andy Warhol Museum has seven floors of paintings, drawings, print, sculpture, film and video of the life and work of Andy Warhol. The Warhol showcases works by other artists, performance series, screenings, lectures, concerts and more. Currently "Someday is Now: The Art of Corita Kent" is on exhibit until April 2015. The live music sound series has four events scheduled in March. The featured film is "Exposed: Songs for Unseen Warhol Films" which is a compilation of 15 Warhol films digitized.

At the heart of Station Square is Bessemer Court, which was designed to celebrate the Steel City. Throughout Station Square is shopping, dining, tours and the Riverhounds Highmark Stadium. The Riverhounds first home game is at the end of March. The Gateway Clipper Fleet offers dining and sight seeing tours of the three rivers. CONSOL Energy Center is home of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins have seven home games in the month of March facing opponents the Columbus Blue Jackets, Edmonton Oilers, Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, Phoenix Coyotes and San Jose Sharks. CONSOL Energy is a venue for five performances. Scheduled shows, concerts and events feature Disney on Ice, WWE Monday Night Raw, Maroon 5 2015 World Tour, Barry Manilow and NCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball Championship Second/Third Rounds. Disney on Ice is scheduled for five nights. NCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball Championship Second/Third Rounds are scheduled for two nights. WWE Monday Night Raw, Maroon 5 2015 World Tour and Barry Manilow are scheduled for one night only. With that lineup, you're sure to find some entertainment over spring break.

Check out Stage AE on the North Shore. Stage AE is a concert venue, amphitheater and a night club. It opened in 2010 and has become a great venue for live music. Four concerts are scheduled for March: Sleater-Kinney on March 1, G. Love and Special Sauce & Matt Costa on March 6, Cold War Kids on March 17 and Steez Promo Presents Excision w/ Protohype & Minnesota on March 19.

Pittsburgh's newly renovated Market Square has food, shops and events in the heart of downtown. Dine, shop, stay and play with Market Square's merchants and associations.
