Dec. 31 is the last chance for Congress to prevent the United States from going over the so-called "fiscal cliff" and it doesn't appear the two sides are close to a deal.
If Republicans and Democrats can't come to an agreement, taxes will go up on all Americans beginning on Jan. 1.
There will also be some deep spending cuts for just about every government agency.
