First Test Results Come Back Clean From Westmoreland Co. Water Supply
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Thousands of people in Westmoreland County may be able to use water as normal again, after a boil water alert was issued last week.
Officials with the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County say Sunday night that the first set of test results have come back normal, without any indication of bacteria.
Thursday officials issued the advisory after a filter water sample came back from the George R. Sweeney Treatment Plant indicating there was a "potential deficiency of the filtration barrier."
The first set of test results is not enough to lift the advisory, however, officials say they're still waiting on results from a second set of results. The MAWC will hold a press conference Monday afternoon.
Approximately 50,000 people have been affected by the advisory, in the area north of Route 30. Small parts of Allegheny and Armstrong counties were also affected.
Until the advisory is lifted, officials say to boil your water before using it, or use bottled water.
Stay with KDKA for more information.
