First Snowfall Creates Traffic Slowdowns, Causes Some Accidents
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It's not quite a winter wonderland, but many got the first taste of winter today, enough snow to tell us the seasons are changing.
The heaviest of the snow came down overnight, switching over from rain with the dropping temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service, today was the snowiest Nov. 12 in Pittsburgh history with 2.4 inches, breaking the previous record of 1.7 inches back in 1911.
"I love the snow. So bring it on. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, so I love it," said Tracey Delucia, of McCandless.
There were some accidents during the morning commute throughout western Pennsylvania, especially on several bridges where slick conditions led to crashes, and plenty of slowdowns.
"I think people just tend to get nervous just when it's snowing, even when there is nothing on the road," said John Tilelli, of Kennedy Township.
"I knew it was going to be bad. People, even if they see a little drizzle or a little snowflake, they don't drive like they normally do," said Phyllis Taranto, of Cranberry Township.
Some areas saw more snow than others - some less than an inch others around three.
By mid-morning, on the North Side - even as gusts were blowing around more flakes - the roads and sidewalks were clear of snow. But many say it's a reminder of what's on the way.
"Winter's here. That's exactly how I feel right now. Well, it's all over - summer, fall, get ready to be cold all the time," said one person.
But this might be the best introduction to winter we could hope for with a warm up on the way for this weekend.
