Firefighter Hurt In South Side Fire
SOUTH SIDE (KDKA) - A firefighter was hurt Sunday night while battling a blaze on Pittsburgh's South Side.
The two-alarm fire started around 10 p.m. at a two-story row house in the 100-block of South 24th Street.
Officials said the fire was contained to the middle unit of that row house.
One firefighter was injured after falling through a ventilation hole that was cut in the roof of the building.
He was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital and his condition is unknown at this time.
The residents inside the building were able to get out safely.
"The guy that was in it smelled smoke upstairs and then he walked out on his own. And the neighbor called, and he was safe. We were glad to see he was out," Deputy Chief Harry Scherer said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
