Fire Leaves 8 Homeless
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Fire swept through a home on Sunday night, leaving eight people homeless.
Several fire companies responded to the fire in the 2600-block of Perrysville Avenue.
The fire started on the second story and continued to burn through the third story.
Authorities say the call originally came in as a couch fire.
Everyone was able to get out of the home safely, but not before the second and third stories became engulfed in flames.
"When the first arriving companies got here, they found fire showing at the second floor window," Pittsburgh Fire Bureau Chief Harry Scherer said. "So they started laying hand lines up into the fire and they were able to contain the fire to the building of origin."
The Red Cross is assisting all eight of those people.
Investigators are still trying to determine if the fire did actually start in the couch.
