Fire Forces Evacuations At Unity Twp. Walmart
UNITY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A fire forced an evacuation at a Walmart in Westmoreland County late Saturday evening.
According to officials at the scene, the fire broke out around 10 p.m. at the store in Unity Township.
Fire crews managed to bring it under control shortly after 11 p.m.
It reportedly started in the garden center where chemicals are stored.
"The fire departments arrived on scene, found the garden center had a lot of smoke coming out of it. They were able to get into the building, but could not establish where the fire was coming from. Being that it was the garden center and the nature of what's in a garden center, the fire chief asked for additional response personnel to come to the scene, including a HAZMAT team from the county just to be on the safe side," Westmoreland County Public Safety Public Information Officer Dan Stevens said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but there are no reported injuries.
