Fire Engulfs Abandoned Home, Response Causes Mudslide
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A fast-moving fire ripped through an abandoned home in the Spring Hill section of Pittsburgh's North Side on Friday evening.
The home on Solar Street, near Overbeck and Brahm Streets, erupted in flames and smoke around 6:30 p.m.
Firefighters had their work cut out for them when it spread to a home next door.
Due to amount of water put on the fire, police say a hillside behind the home collapsed and caused a mudslide. Part of the street was blocked as a result.
A neighbor was walking his dog at the time when he saw the smoke and called 911.
"I was taking my dog for walk, coming around the corner and saw smoke and flames coming out of the first-floor window. I dialed 911 and told them there was fire shooting out everywhere and this is the outcome," said William Kearns, a neighbor. "It's been abandoned for a long time; I knew somebody was going to set it on fire."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
