Fire Damages Washington Co. Home, But Residents Make It Out Safely
HOUSTON, Pa. (KDKA) -- A fire spread quickly through a Washington County home with seven people inside overnight, but thanks to one of the residents, everyone was able to make it out safely.
The smoky fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. on Roth Street. According to officials, one of the people living inside went door to door in an effort to get the other residents out.
The blackened interior indicates the intensity of the smoke that filled the home.
The fire is believed to have been centered in the rear of the structure and the flames quickly moved through the interior.
That's when, according to police and neighbors, one of the homes residents, identified as Lou Williams, noticed the fire and went about alerting the six others in the home.
He quickly moved them out to safety before they were overcome by smoke.
However, several were taken to the hospital and treated for breathing issues related to the smoke. Their names and conditions have not been released.
Fire investigators spent several hours looking closely at the circumstances around the fire. They declined any comment.
Several neighbors, who declined to appear on camera, say the home has been a problem in the neighborhood and police have visited several times.
