1 Dead In Sheraden House Fire
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- One man died today when a fast moving, three-alarm fire broke out in a two-story frame house in the city's Sheraden neighborhood.
Pittsburgh Fire Chief Darryl Jones said a search and rescue team found the victim about 15 feet inside on the first floor. Neighbors said the victim lived in the Pritchard Street house alone.
Jones said they had to rotate firefighters because of the extreme heat.
With firemen wearing as much as 100 pounds of gear, Jones said: "We have to stay hydrated to make sure no one overexerts themselves. It's a physical job, and on days like today, it's very difficult."
Neighbor Bobbie Cupp told KDKA-TV, "I was out cleaning my cousin's pool, and I heard snap, crackle and pop. I saw smoke coming out of the house, so I jumped out [of the pool], and I called 911."
So far, authorities have not released the identity of the man who died.
