Filming For Boxing Movie Moves Into Carrick
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- New graffiti is appearing on businesses on Brownsville Road in Carrick, but this is nothing to be worried about.
It was put there by film crews working on the boxing movie "Southpaw," which stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams, 50 Cent and Lupita Nyong'o. The goal is to make this corner of the Pittsburgh-area look like the Bronx in New York City.
"We've done a lot of research with wallpaper paste," the film's art director, Greg Weimerskirch, said.
The crew has also added security doors and switched out some street signs.
And the crew is promising to clean and freshen up paint before they move on.
That is not the only way "Southpaw" has left its mark on Pittsburgh.
Last week, filmmakers transformed the former Saks Fifth Avenue building downtown into the front of Madison Square Garden. There were even New York police cars and taxi cabs.
The film is shooting in Pittsburgh through early August.
