Ferguson Unrest Felt Locally At East Liberty Rally
EAST LIBERTY (KDKA) – The unrest in Ferguson, Mo. Is now being felt at home.
Protesters in Pittsburgh clashed with police Tuesday night.
Dozens of people gathered in East Liberty to protest the killing of Michael Brown – the black teenager who was shot to death by a white police officer in Ferguson.
Protestors marched down Penn Avenue, blocking traffic near the Target store.
The rally was peaceful for the most part, but three people were taken away in handcuffs after they refused to move out of the street.
"If you would like to continue your rally, you may do so but you can not block traffic," a police officer said through the speaker on a police car. "If you continue to block traffic, we have no choice but to arrest you."
"Now it's to the point where who's going to protect us from them when the people sworn to serve and protect ... stop something when you're doing it right," said one demonstrator.
Attorney General Eric Holder is due in Ferguson Wednesday to supervise the federal investigation of the fatal shooting of Michael Brown.
Brown will be laid to rest on Monday.
His death has stoked more than a week of unrest in the city.
