Feds Seize $4M Worth Of Cocaine Hidden In Tractor Trailer
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Federal agents seized millions of dollars' worth of cocaine from a local neighborhood.
Authorities say the suspects had 20 kilos of cocaine with a street value of $4 million along with $450,000 in cash.
The tractor-trailer was unloaded at a farm on New Texas Road in Plum Boro. It was targeted based in part on intercepted phone conversations.
"The phrase, 'I should be able to holler at you in a hot minute,' was a coded reference that a meeting or other type of informal communication was eminent," U.S. Attorney David Hickton said.
Ten people were arrested. Several cars connected to an operation in North Carolina and the local operation were seized.
Beyond the Plum Boro location, the drugs ended up in Penn Hills. Ninety percent of U.S. cocaine comes from Mexico.
What about the company that owns the tractor trailer? Investigators aren't sure what else was transferred, but they're taking a closer look at the California company.
"We're still investigating that company," Gary Davis with the DEA said. "What I would point out is that nobody has stepped forward to claim the tractor trailer at this point."
The U.S. Attorney says that if you see a big rig in your neighborhood and it's not at a warehouse or a store making a delivery, you should call police.
