Suspect In Ross Twp. Rapes Identified

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Authorities are set to make an arrest in the recent sexual assault cases that have left the Ross Township community on edge.

KDKA's Marty Griffin reports DNA evidence has come back matching a suspect to the crimes. He has been identified by officials as 38-year-old Arthur Lamont Henderson. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

"The DNA evidence that was collected as part of the scene processing and from those efforts does match that of Arthur Henderson," Ross Township Detective Brian Kohlhepp said.

Investigators obtained a DNA sample from Henderson by swabbing his mouth. He was the person of interest who was questioned by police last week. Ross Township police say Henderson has a girlfriend who lives in the Cascade Apartments where one of the rapes happened.

Henderson will be charged with at least two sexual assaults. He has a significant criminal history that involved drugs, guns and forgery, but no prior arrests in sexual assault cases.

"We were fortunate in this particular case that the assault kits from each of the two Ross Township victims had high quality and good amount of DNA," Allegheny County Medical Examiner Dr. Karl Williams said.

Federal marshals are reportedly searching for Henderson now in connection with the alleged incidents. A $5,000 award is being offered by the FBI for information leading to the suspect's arrest.

On Jan. 7, police say a woman at the Woodhawk Club apartments was approached by an armed man who forced her back into her apartment, sexually assaulted and robbed her.

Then, on Jan. 9, investigators say a woman walking her dog at the Cascade Apartments returned to home to find a man inside armed with a gun. Police say she was also sexually assaulted and robbed.
