FBI Searches Internet Server In Pitt Bomb Threat Case

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The FBI has labeled the University of Pittsburgh bomb threat case as a top priority and it believes it is closing in on the person responsible.

Authorities are convinced that the person or persons is making the bomb threats is using an internet server to do so.

Agents arrived in New York Friday with a subpoena to obtain the records of a company called May First/People Link.

May First/People Link calls itself an alternative internet provider with fewer than 1,000 members. It calls the bomb threats acts of terror and says its members had nothing to do with these acts.

"Either an e-mail account or some other mechanism on that particular server was hijacked," Alfredo Lopez of May First/People Link said. "In other words, this person or people was using an e-mail account that they were not entitled to."

A user of May First/People Link's system has now given the FBI access to its server. Agents are looking at anyone who used that server recently.

Lopez said the bomb threats would be opposed by most, if not all, of May First/People Link's members.

Lopez is convinced the FBI can use May First/Service Link's server to get to a suspect. There is no comment from the FBI at this time.
