Arrest Made After Crash Involving State Trooper In Fayette Co.
FAYETTE COUNTY (KDKA) -- Police have arrested the man they say caused a two-car crash which injured a state police trooper and an innocent driver while being chased Friday.
Arrested overnight was 23-year-old Jonathan Michael Switch of McClellandtown.
Police say Switch led them on a chase along Bute Road in North Union Township Friday afternoon after refusing to pull over during a traffic stop.
The trooper suffered a hip injury and a woman who was driving a red SUV sustained head injuries when their vehicles crashed while police were chasing Switch's car.
Police say Switch started to pull over but kept going, heading for the exit to Bute Road. By then, the a second trooper joined the chase.
The woman driving the red SUV on Bute Road pulled over to let the suspect and the trooper get by. But, apparently, she didn't see the second state police vehicle coming and turned left into his path.
"The female didn't see him, I'm not sure exactly what happened, but she turned left in front of him to make the left turn at the intersection there," said State Police Tpr. Stephanie Lucas.
The woman was flown by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
Switch is charged on several counts, including aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
