Fayette Co. Family's Luxury Treehouse Featured On National TV
WHARTON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A local treehouse was featured on national TV Friday night.
But it's not just any old treehouse. It's a pretty spectacular one built by the Animal Planet reality show "Treehouse Masters."
It's built on the grounds of the Summit Inn Golf Course in Wharton Township, Fayette County.
Amanda Votihofer and her family own the course as well as the Summit Inn, and now they own a treehouse that puts most others to shame.
It has a bar area, a hidden television, mission-style furniture, a table for candlelight dinners, a wrap-around porch, even an animal tracking camera so you can watch any bears that might wonder around.
A bouncy bridge leads to house, which is built 18 feet off the ground between three trees.
Voithofer says it was her sister who first learned about the show and urged the family to apply.
The story of their treehouse first aired on Animal Planet Friday at 10 p.m.
Voithofer's husband, Jeremiah, showed us the porch which has incredible views of Uniontown and surrounding communities. He says on a clear day, you can even see the top of the U.S. Steel Building in Downtown Pittsburgh.
The family hopes to be able to allow visitors to the golf course and the inn to experience the treehouse, and they're exploring the possibility of renting it out for private parties.
Voithofer didn't want to disclose what the treehouse cost, but the show creates treehouses that range in price from $50,000 to $300,000.
