Fayette Co. Family Dealt Double Dose Of Tragedy
CONNELLSVILLE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - A family in Fayette County suffered a double dose of tragedy on Tuesday.
Hours after burying their grandson, their house went up in flames.
Bill and Kathy Little have endured a week most of us can't imagine.
"Before we knew it, there were flames coming out. The neighbor come over and we didn't have a clue," Kathy Little said.
Today, the couple returned to their Connellsville Township home to sift through the rubble.
"The neighbor said, 'What's going on? There are flames coming out of your roof," Kathy Little said.
The little's had just returned home from their teenage grandson's funeral and were working to fix some frozen pipes when the fire broke out on the second floor of their Narrows Road home.
Firefighters knocked down the blaze in about 30 minutes. The Littles watched from the window of Nelson Domer's house across the street.
"God's testing you for something, I said. He takes care of you," Domer said.
The fire comes less than one week after their grandson, 22-year old William Little IV was shot and killed by a friend.
Andrew Hustosky, 17, of Dunbar, is now being charged as an adult with criminal homicide.
"I want to say to the young people out there, Billy only knew that boy 2-3 weeks and he hung out at his house a little bit. Know who your friends are. Know who you can trust," Kathy Little said.
The Littles are now staying with family and say they've been humbled by the support they've received from the community.
"We depend on Jesus. The Lord and the church," Bill Little said.
They are also getting support from their long-time friend across the street, whose own home burned to the ground 45 years ago to the day.
"I hate to see it, but I think they'll be alright. They're good people," Domer said.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but is under investigation.
