HOMEWOOD (KDKA) -- Allegheny County Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in Homewood by Pittsburgh Police officers.
The family identifies the man as 39-year-old Mark Daniels.
It happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Brushton Avenue and Bennett Street in Homewood.
Police say two officers were on patrol in the area when they saw Daniels, who they say was acting suspiciously. Daniels then allegedly fired a gun at the officers.
An officer returned fire and shot Daniels, who then ran from the officers. The officers caught up to him, and Daniels was transported to UPMC Presbyterian, where he later died.

His family is angry and wants answers. His mother said no one at UPMC Presbyterian would let her see her son.
"I kept saying, 'Please, I want to see my son,'" Joyce Daniels said. "It's inhuman that you don't let a parent see their child in a situation like this."
"They said the cops told them that they are not permitted to tell her anything. Don't tell her nothing," Anita Williams, the victim's aunt, said.
"When did the cops start running UPMC?" Joyce said.
The family claims he did not own or carry a gun.
"My son, we sat there, we laughed, we talked," Joyce said. "He had no guns. He had no nothing."
"I asked the [medical] examiner to please check under his fingernails, wherever you can to identify if there is any kind of powder or residue from him shooting a gun," Sequoaha Jeffries, the victim's sister, said.
Family members say they won't stop until they know the truth.
"Everything just don't sound right from the police report to how he got to the hospital," Jeffries said. "First it was he got shot in the shoulder. That's what we found out. And now all of a sudden, it hit a main artery. So exactly how many times did he get shot?"
Police didn't say where Daniels got shot, and investigators haven't said what weapon they recovered on the scene or if they recovered a weapon.
Pittsburgh Police placed the two officers involved on administrative leave while Allegheny County Police investigate.
