1 Dead In Birmingham Bridge Crash
OAKLAND (KDKA)- Police are looking into a deadly Tuesday morning crash along the Oakland side of the Birmingham Bridge.
According to officials, the crash happened around 3:30 a.m.
For almost an hour, the entrance to the inbound lanes of the Birmingham Bridge were closed to traffic as police pieced together what happened.
Jequayla Turner, 25, of the Hill District was behind the wheel of the car and was later pronounced dead at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
"There was no evidence that the driver was able to slow down," Public Safety Spokesperson Sonya Toler said. "She was alone in the vehicle and there were no other cars involved."
Police said turner was traveling in the inbound lane, but she was going in the wrong direction and crashed at an unfinished ramp.
Turner was a temporary worker in housekeeping at the Providence Point Nursing Home in Scott Township. Her last day in that position ended earlier this month.
Where she was going just before the accident is not yet known.
