Fans Use Creativity To Make Their Own 'Stanley Cups'
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Wednesday morning was a beautiful day for a parade. Hundreds of thousands of Penguins fans lined the sidewalks of the Boulevard of the Allies, to cheer the champions. Cheers rose to a deafening roar when Sidney Crosby raised the Stanley Cup.
Seeing the real cup is exciting, but many fans brought "cups" of their own. The real one is made of silver and nickel alloy, and weighs a hefty 35 pounds. But one young fan constructed his own, of lesser materials.
"Two buckets and a colander," he explained.
Pens fan Jake Minteer got a smaller version for Christmas.

"Santa Claus knew the cup is coming to Pittsburgh," his friend explained.
Brendan Kearney's version is as wobbly as the Pens' chances last November.
"Clothes hamper, yeah. right here," he pointed out. "And we actually have a pipe going up through here to keep it. It's actually a mixing bowl on top. Then it's just wrapped with papier mache and aluminum duct tape."
Players don't get to keep the real Stanley Cup. It may or may not be the same for amateur cup maker Frank Schwarzmeier.
"This bowl is actually my grandmother's that I took from her," he explained. "She don't know." Realizing he would appear on TV, he added, "Now I'm busted."
