Fans Send Steelers Off To Texas With Pep Rally

NORTH SHORE (KDKA) -- Steeler Nation was in an all too familiar place cheering their beloved Black and Gold on as they head to the Super Bowl for the third time in just six years and for the 8th time in franchise history.

"How many years? Clear back in the 70's – Steel Curtain all that stuff!" Bill Maust, of Meyersdale, said. "We're not spoiled. We're dedicated!"

KDKA's Ken Rice and Bob Pompeani along with Bill Hillgrove emceed the send off pep rally at Heinz Field. Fans of all ages are ready for the seventh Lombardi trophy and making winning predictions.

"Hines Ward is gonna win and that he's gonna do good!" Nina Williams, of Carrick, said.

Even with Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey not expected to play Super Bowl Sunday and list of teammates playing banged up with injuries like Troy Polamalu and Bryant McFadden, fans are ever confident of a win Feb. 6 in Dallas.

"Pittsburgh got it all the way. It ain't even a challenge," Ryan O'Conner, of Bloomfield, said. "Aaron Rogers better beware!"

And when the 2010 Steelers greeted the 18,000-plus fans who braved the bitter cold, they said there's no comparison between Steelers fans and Packers fans.

"This is the kind of fans we have. They're the best fans ever," Ryan Clark said. "Right now they're trying to compare the Packer fans to Steeler Nation. It's not even close!"

"I believe we're gonna have way more fans than the Packers. Because they always talk about Pittsburgh and Green Bay have the same amount of fans but I think we got more," LaMarr Woodley said.

The Steelers will get on a plane Monday morning to travel to Dallas.
