Fans Rally To "Ground The Jets"
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- As the Steelers get set for their biggest game so far this season, fans are donning their black and gold, waving their Terrible Towels and rallied Friday afternoon to "Ground the Jets!"
The Steelers and New York Jets will go head to head this Sunday night at Heinz Field for the AFC Championship title and a trip to the Super Bowl.
Fans are got pumped up for the game at a rally at the Allegheny County Courthouse. The "Ground The Jets Rally" got underway at noon around the Terrible Tree with live music, free refreshments, face-painting, games and giveaways!
The rally kicks off a slew of other Steelers parties around the area.
The fun continues later tonight with the Steelers Championship Party Weekend at Stage AE on the North Shore.
The doors opened at 5 p.m. Live music started at 7 p.m. with performances by Gene The Werewolf and Tres Lads. The Clarks will take the stage around 10 p.m. Tickets cost $20 and are available for purchase through Ticketmaster.com.
Tomorrow night, fans can head back over to Stage AE to get fired up with a free Championship warm-up party. The doors will once again open at 5 p.m. with DJ J-Spin providing the musical entertainment and several Steelers alumni on hand to sign autographs.
Pittsburgh native and star of the CBS comedy series, "Mike & Molly," Billy Gardell, will take the stage at 10 p.m. to wrap up the festivities on Saturday.
The Steelers Nation may even have a little heavenly intervention for the big game. Sunday would have been the 82nd birthday of the creator of the Terrible Towel, Steelers broadcasting legend Myron Cope. Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl will present a proclamation declaring Sunday "Yoi and Double Yoi Day" in the city.
