Fans Gather At Big Screen Back Home, Others Invade St. Louis To Watch Bucs

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It was a little like a Pittsburgh family reunion at the St. Louis Airport this morning.

There was black and gold coming from all directions.

Ken Lehn from Shadyside brought his family.

"We've been to many Pirates games this year, but I also lived in St. Louis for about 10 years and I've never taken my wife and son to St. Louis so I thought what better time to come," said Lehn.

KDKA's David Highfield Reports:

But it wasn't just the Pittsburgh flight that brought Pirates fans. Marshall Auron and his daughter, Kim, flew in from Charlotte, N.C.

He used to live in the 'Burgh during the Bucs' 1979 World Series win.

"With few exceptions, it's been a long drought since then and so we just had to get to some playoff game," said Marshall.

KDKA's David Highfield Reports:

"I'm 25, and I don't remember ever… the Pirates having a winning team. So, this is so exciting," said Kim.

Lynn and Lisa Glassburn from Connellsville were heading to St. Louis for a wedding anyway, so they got some tickets to the game.

"It is really exciting," said Lisa.

"I'm in love with Neil Walker, I want to adopt him," added Lynn.

Meanwhile, back here in Pittsburgh, hundreds of fans have gathered together to watch the game on a big screen at the Pirates block party on Federal Street.

The anticipation of the Bucs moving on has been as thick as Heinz ketchup around the city for the past few days.

This game against the St. Louis Cardinals will mark the 20th meeting between the two teams this season, but this time the stakes are much higher. There is a history and a rivalry, and it should be fun to watch.

KDKA's John Shumway Reports:

And even though the Pirates are playing in enemy territory, fans are optimistic.

"I still think we're going to win because we're on a roll," said one fan.

"This is great," added another fan. "I've been around for all the other ones, back in '60, '71, '79, but this is the first time I've actually been a part of it and it's great. It's a memory that I'll never forget. Let's go Bucs."
