Fans Flock To Penguins' Stores Again, Take Advantage Of Post-Lockout Deals
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Once again, the Pittsburgh Penguins are offering something extra to fans. And once again, those fans lined up to take advantage of those deals.
Even before the stores opened, fans were waiting outside the Pens' South Side Works store.
"Lines were long," said Kathy Sas, of Cranberry Township. "I was surprised. It's great to have so many people out here."
As one satisfied customer came out, another anxious customer went in.
"[I've been] waiting to get into the store an hour and 10 minutes," said one customer.
And inside, there was another lengthy line to pay.
"I'd say inside we probably waited about an hour also," a customer said.
As promised, the Penguins had another point of sale device installed to speed the checkout process, but the new addition was going unused.
The continuing delay didn't seem to dampen fan enthusiasm though.
"My little one is a Penguins fan, so it's well worth it," said Scott Kaercher, of Whitehall.
The line was even longer at CONSOL Energy Center, but multiple cash registers operating in a constant chorus of cha-ching kept the crowd moving through the larger store at a steady pace.
"I just came to check it out," said Monica Walker of Bridgeville. "I got my son a Fleury shirt and some cups."
By late afternoon, the challenge to keep the shelves stocked under the stress of constant sales was starting to show in the depleted stock.
"It was definitely worth it," said Donna Lisiecki, of Bon Air. "I'm a season ticket holder and I'll definitely be here tonight, but it was worth it making my run up this afternoon because I got a whole bag of stuff for a hundred dollars and I would have spent a lot more on it."
