Fans Expected To Flock To Big Screen For NLDS Game 1
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Many fans described the Wild Card win over the Reds as one of the greatest moments for them. While it will be difficult to top that, fans will be able to unite once again even though the Buccos are on the road.
Work started around 10 a.m. Wednesday on the 15x20 foot projection screen that will bring the away game, back to Pittsburgh.
KDKA-TV's Heather Abraham spoke with the man who possibly got the conversation started to do this.
"Everybody wants to be part of this and if we can be part of this, why not make it bigger, bigger, grander, more fun?" David Martin said.
Martin threw out the big screen suggestion back in early September. Today, he won't take credit for the first Buccos Playoff Watch Party on Federal Street, but is more than happy to see it happening.
"I'm just so excited. I'm excited for the fans. More importantly, I hope we're having a conservation about how we're going to celebrate the World Series," Martin said.
Pirates' President Frank Coonelly told KDKA-TV News, "We're going to throw a block party, and we hope a lot of fans come out."
Team officials say fans can bring their own food and drinks, but grills and glass bottles are not permitted for safety reasons.
Limited parking will be available after 4 p.m. in Red Lot Six, which is across from the PNC Park Press Entrance on General Robinson Street.
Game 1 of the NLDS against the Cardinals begins at 5:07 p.m.
