Fans Excited As Pens Push Capitals To Brink Of Elimination
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Penguins are one win away from advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Patric Hornqvist's overtime goal against the Washington Capitals in Game 4 gave the Pens a 3-2 win and a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.
Fans who stayed up late to watch the game are pretty tired today, but it was worth it. This morning, many fans called into 93-7 The Fan to talk about the big win.
"Who stepped up the biggest? It was the guys on the blue line - Daley, Dumoulin, Cole - all of those guys came up with more minutes than they were asked to come up with previously and with solid performances in those minutes," 93-7 The Fan's Chris Mack said.
"It just comes down to the hot goaltender and right now, [Matt Murray] is just that guy," one man said.
Some fans called out the naysayers that said a win wasn't in the cards last night, due to Kris Letang serving a one-game suspension.
"Letang's out, what are we gonna do? The Caps are gonna run us out of the building, guess what? We played the game and we won," another caller said.
While the Pens have the Capitals on the brink of elimination, not everyone is celebrating.
"I'm super excited we've gotten this far, but I feel like we need to be a smidge more conservative. Watching the guys play last night, especially in the first period, Washington was a was a lot more physical than we were," one woman said.
"It's a little early to meet them at the airport and clap, but I'll tell you this team is definitely, special," 93-7 The Fan's Josh Miller said.
Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole thinks so too. He was seen sitting front row in a Sidney Crosby jersey during Game 4. He vigorously cheered on the team and even heckled the Caps' bench.
The Penguins will look to close out the series on Saturday when they travel to Washington for Game 5.
