Fans Confident Legursky Can Fill In For Injured Pouncey
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The Steelers and their fans are getting ready for the Super Bowl; however, some new developments on the injury front could keep a key player out of the game.
It was a sight that sank the hearts of Steelers Nation, there he was, big No. 53 - Steelers rookie and All-Pro center Maurkice Pouncey – hobbled last Sunday in the AFC Championship game.
In initial reports, it was believed Pouncey was facing a high ankle sprain, but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Thursday that the center has a broken bone in his ankle.
If he is unable to start on Feb. 6, Doug Legursky will replace him in the lineup.
"People go down, people step in. From the beginning of the season, Willie Colon, Max Starks, they both went down," said Legursky. "We have back ups come in and we haven't missed a beat."
Pouncey has been a great player all season long for the Steelers, but what about No. 64 Legursky?
"I don't know anything about him?" said Arlene Riley, a Steelers fan.
"I heard his interview on the radio; he sounded confident," said Erin Schmidt, another fan. "But I don't know a whole lot about him. I think he'll do good though."
Can he be the man on Super Bowl Sunday though? Can the undrafted, free agent help the Steelers beat the Green Bay Packers for their seventh Lombardi Trophy?
"I've got faith in my boys; always have," added Riley. "I believe they are going to pull it off with or without [Pouncey]."
Legursky is six-foot-one-inches tall and 325 pounds. He went to Marshall University and before that he broke every weight lifting record at his high school.
