Fan Ejected After Interfering With Polanco On Foul Ball
SAN FRANCISCO (KDKA) –A fan at the Pirates-Giants game last night caused a bit of controversy in the eighth inning.
The Pirates were leading 4-3 with nobody on and two outs in the inning. San Francisco's cleanup hitter, Buster Posey, was at the plate.
Posey hit a foul pop fly into the first row of seats in right field. Gregory Polanco gave chase and appeared to be able to make a play, except a fan got in the way.
The fan, sporting a Barry Bonds Pirates jersey and retro hat, leaned into Polanco, who missed the catch.
The play was reviewed by the umpires and Posey was ruled out due to fan interference.
Here's the good news:
Because of the fan, the Pirates got out of the inning with Posey only seeing one pitch. Posey is hitting .291 this season with 8 homers and 27 RBIs.
To be fair, Polanco likely makes the catch anyway.
The bad news?
The fan was ejected from the game and didn't even catch the ball. The ball bounced off Polanco's glove and rolled down the barrier to a Giants fan.
For his sake, at least the Pirates won and he received a supportive hug from a nearby Giants fan for his efforts.
