Family Of Slain Cyclist Disappointed With Accused Driver's Sentence
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The driver in a deadly hit-and-run crash was sentenced Tuesday to two-and-a-half to five years in prison and it's not the news the victim's family was hoping for.
Jeffrey McClure, 29, of Pitcairn entered guilty pleas to two felony counts in connection with the death of bicyclist James Price in July.
The plea was part of an agreement with the Allegheny County District Attorney's office.
Price's mother, Glenice told KDKA's Kym Gable, "He killed someone, and he gets 5 years?"
Price was killed while riding his bicycle on Penn Avenue.
Police say McClure was speeding and driving with a suspended license.
He fled the scene and was arrested weeks later.
"He should have stayed. He should have stayed to help my brother," Price's sister Rochelle Jackson said. "He may have been able to save his life."
The family says McClure turned to them in the courtroom and Tuesday and said he was sorry.
McClure was also sentenced to eight years of probation.
