Family Of 4 Escapes North Side House Fire
NORTH SIDE (KDKA)- Officials are looking into the cause of a fire that forced four people out of their home Thursday morning.
According to officials at the scene, the fire started around 3:45 a.m. at a home on Knoll Street on the North Side.
"I woke up to flames looking out my window, flames flying through the trees and throughout the house, that's really all I could see," said Julian Carpenter.
Carpenter and his family lived inside the home on fire. All four of them were able to escape the flames before fire crews arrived.
When crews got on scene, flames were shooting from a second floor window. They had the fire knocked down in about 15 minutes.
Firefighters spent about an hour going through the house and the houses next door to make sure the fire didn't spread.
"Some nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, but this was only a temporary evacuation," said Chief Harry Scherer of Pittsburgh Fire.
He also said crews aren't sure how the family inside was alerted to the fire:
"Right now, there is no indication there were smoke detectors in the house," Chief Scherer said.
No one was injured in the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
