Family Meets Generous Stranger Who Donated Home
McKEES ROCKS (KDKA) -- It's not your standard open house, but it's an open house nonetheless. A couple touched by tragedy and a generous stranger are now joined by kindness and need.
It was a week or so ago when Lori Rippey and Vaughan Lutton watched their Aliquippa home burn to the ground.
Four kids, no insurance, no savings and homeless.
George heard KDKA's Marty Griffin ask for a home for a family on KDKA Radio, and he offered them one. He feels good about it.
"I had this feeling when I had a baby, had this feeling when I got my job," said George. "Feels like I hit the lottery, that's what it feels like."
So, George is donating the house. He happens to work for Columbia Gas. They want to help the couple get started by offering hook-up and assistance with their gas.
"It's very heartwarming. We're very fortunate to have George as an employee," said Brynnly Schwartz, of Columbia Gas. "He's a very giving and selfless person. I think he accurately reflects that all of our employees have the goal of keeping our customers warm and safe."
For Vaughan and Lori, the last week is a blur, with losing a house and now getting a house. But they are very clear about how thankful they are.
"Nothing feels more comfortable than knowing you have a home," said Vaughn. "Thanks to God and people like George for coming through for us when you need them."
"I'm just amazed at the love from complete strangers," added Lori.
