Family & Friends Of Victim Glad To Hear Of Konias Arrest

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Ken Konias, the armored truck guard arrested for allegedly killing his partner and stealing $2.3 million dollars, wanted to apologize to the family of Michael Haines, according to sources.

After he was arrested in Florida because of a tip to police, sources also say he told them that he wanted the Haines' family to know that Haines may have tried to prevent the robbery.

Haines and family and friends are pleased Konias is now behind bars.

"I didn't think they'd ever find him," said Joe Krsul Sr.

"They cheered when it came on the news," Krsul added, whose son was Haines' best friend. "My sons jumped out of bed."

Krsul says Haines had become part of their family.

"Every day was constant reminder, and now we have some closure," he said.

Haines' parents learned of the arrest with a phone call a few hours after Konias had been taken into custody.

"They're happy that this matter will be brought before the courts, and justice can be done in the case of the homicide of their son," said their attorney, John Bachrach.

As for the parents of the Ken Konias, their attorney said the family is relieved that Konias is in custody and that no one was hurt in his capture.

It was back in March when his mother Renee made a plea at press conference to turn himself in: "Ken, we want you to come home. Please contact me."

As for people in the Dravosburg neighborhood where Konias is from, one main said, "Innocent until proven guilty."

Several people said they were glad Konias' run from the law was over.

"I'm just grateful that he went peacefully, and the poor boy didn't get shot. What he did was wrong, and he knows what he did is wrong."
