Family, Friends Hold Vigil To Honor 2013 Giant Eagle Murder Victim
SOUTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - It has been two years since a man, who tried to stop a bank robber, was shot and killed at a Washington County Giant Eagle.
Still, there have been no arrests in the case.
Tearful loved ones returned to the scene of the crime Tuesday evening. The Giant Eagle in South Strabane Township, Washington County, is where 46-year-old Vincent Kelley was shot to death on Father's Day, 2013.
"He was actually out here shopping, a bank robbery took place, he did what he had to do to stop it and he paid for it with his life," says Mark Kelley, the victim's' brother.
Kelley jumped into action when he noticed that the Citizen's Bank inside the grocery store was being robbed.
He chased the robber out into the parking lot. Then, gun shots were fired.
Police still do not know who pulled the trigger.
"They've exhausted all of their leads so far. We're looking for anybody, anybody out there that knows anything. It doesn't matter how small a detail, please come forward," says Kelley.
Family and friends are hoping someone with information steps forward, helping to bring not only justice, but some closure.
"There's absolutely no answers, whoever did this is still out there and there's a $50,000 reward," says Kelley.
While police continue to work the case, family members say they will do all they can to make sure "Vinnie" is remembered as a hero.
They've been wearing these memorial T-shirts and they released dozens of balloons in honor of a man they say was taken far too soon.
