FAA Probes Plane Departures From Closed Pittsburgh Runway
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) – An investigation is being conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration after several planes took off from a closed runway at Pittsburgh International Airport this week.
According to an Associated Press report, five planes were allowed to take off from the closed runway on Tuesday.
The runway was closed because of runway lights being damaged by storms.
According to an FAA statement, a visual aid in the control tower had also been damaged and didn't display the closed runway information. Once the Allegheny County Airport Authority reported the runway was closed, controllers halted departures.
