Exclusive: Oakland's Terrelle Pryor Ready To Work
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- He was a star at Jeannette High School, but his college career was cut short by a scandal at Ohio State and now Terrelle Pryor is in the NFL.
The Oakland Raiders drafted him in the third round and KDKA-TV spoke exclusively to Pryor when it happened.
Two days ago, Pryor put together a makeshift Pro Day which was attended by 17 teams, including the Steelers who sent both Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin.
They spent two hours with him at their headquarters on Sunday. If the Steelers considered taking Pryor, it was not going to be before the fourth round.
But their interest certainly helped his chances.
"I'm thankful for them," Pryor said. "The Steelers – one of my teams growing up and they have a great organization and Pittsburgh should be very proud of them … to have a coach like Tomlin, should be proud the way he carries himself. It's just a great organization."
But now he heads to a not-so-great organization which has potential quarterback openings. The Raiders have Jason Campbell, Kyle Boller and Trent Edwards on their roster.
"I'm just looking forward to get out there and get to work, you know, and find out what's going down and what's going to happen, you know," Pryor told KDKA-TV. "I feel comfortable and I feel good about the situation and I'm going to take full advantage of it."
"We felt like the third round was the ceiling and the Raiders are a perfect fit because they really have an unsettled quarterback situation right now and they've played a bunch of different guys there and back and forth so I think that Terrelle's in the best spot," Drew Rosenhaus, Pryor's agent, said.
"Third round's a great win for him. I give him a lot of credit. He had a great workout, did well with his physical, all the interviews with the teams – so it's a big win for him. We're very excited for him," he added.
Pryor is now headed to the West Coast and hopes to sign a deal quickly and then begin to become the franchise quarterback the Raiders are looking for.
He must first serve a five game suspension, but is eligible to play in the final two preseason games.
