Everyone Chirping About Cricket Prank, But School Says It's No Joke

BRIDGEVILLE (KDKA) -- Several students were involved in what appears to be a senior prank at Chartiers Valley High School in Bridgeville.

In a brief written statement, School District spokeswoman Kara Droney told KDKA-TV News: "Crickets were released in our high school today. The students responsible were identified, and are subject to our student code of conduct."

Droney refused to say how many students took part in the incident, nor was she specific concerning the discipline the students might now be facing.

For a while, social media was chirping about the prank Thursday, especially comments on Twitter.

Sources told KDKA-TV that several thousand crickets were released in the school by as many as six students.

A security camera caught some of the practical joke on video.

What was supposed to be a gag; however, turned into no laughing matter as school custodians and even some teachers helped collect the insects.

The school district is expected to have more to say about the prank on Friday.

Last year, seven Kentucky students were involved in a similar prank. The school administration decided that they would not be allowed to take part in their graduation ceremonies.
